Website Wednesday: Tilt Shift Your Photos

I found this link today, a fun photo editing web site called Tilt Shift. It creates the effect of a 3D model from your picture - the site has some tips for choosing a great photo. Here's one I did - not the best example but the best I could find quickly (I wanted to try)! What do you think? Does the second picture look like a model horse and carriage? Regardless, it really enhanced the photo - made the focus on the carriage instead of the streetsign, which is what I originally wanted. Now, let's see what you can tilt shift!

I live in Michigan with my wonderful husband and two sweet girls. I have been scrapbooking traditionally for about 10 years and have only recently started digi scrapping. I am IN LOVE with digi scrapping for so many reasons...not as expensive as traditional scrapbooking, takes less time than traditional scrapbooking and I feel I can be a little more creative, to name a few. My inspiration for scrapbooking are my children. I want them to look back at their scrapbooks and be able to tell how much I love them.

My blog is getting so bogged down with announcements, sharing about awesome kits my friends are making and stuff that I haven't really had a chance to tell you what I've been up to. I am going to try to stick to a schedule - we'll see how well I do! LOL

In Loving Memory

I have received hundreds of emails, comments and messages from all of you offering your condolences and asking if there is anything you can do. I thought I would offer the opportunity for you to make a donation, in memory of my grandmother, to a wonderful organization here in Minnesota. It's called N.C. Little Hospice. It's where my grandmother spent her last few weeks, and is truly a remarkable place. It is entirely run by volunteers and volunteer nurses and is a home for those who are living their last days. They have 8 private rooms, places for family to rest, relax and sleep. Snacks and food available for both patient and family members. It is truly a fantastic place, and much nicer then a hospital room. There aren't nearly enough places like this around and as it is entirely volunteer run, they depend on donations to keep the place running.

Good Morning all -

First, I want to thank Steph for being such a great friend and posting for me yesterday. You're awesome Steph and I really appreciate you and your awesome voice!

Next, I want to thank everyone who has left a comment or sent an email Your thoughts and support mean the world to me. I am lucky to be a part of such a wonderful community.

I am doing alright. i have had a couple of break downs, but I need to be strong and make it through. There are lots of decisions to make and things to get done. My grandmother was a wonderful woman and will be missed every day. I doubt I'll be around much this week - but who knows, I might need a break from reality and pop in to check up!

I wanted to remind you all of the A Mother's Moments blog train (get my freebie in the post below) that's going on - but act fast these freebies are only free for two weeks before they go into my stores.

Next I wanted to remind you of the Life's Inspiration download a day that starts today at the Stuff to Scrap blog I suggest scrolling down a post or two to pick up a really fun calendar freebie too! (Steph -can you make a post about the calendar in the forum? Thanks!)

Just Kidding, I just wanted to pop in and say that Manda has had a death in the family and won't be around much the next few days. I know she has some goodies planned, but they are going to be a little late. So please just be patient and keep Manda in your thoughts. ...I don’t know enough about my grandparents, parents or even my own childhood. I have a hard time remembering what happened yesterday, much less a few years ago. I want to remember. I wamt my kids, grandkids and other family to remember. I like pretty things to look at. I enjoy having a hobby. I enjoy the friends I have made. I love to be creative. I love pictures. I digital scrap because it’s faster, easier and less messy and I paper scrap for the feeling. I scrap for my son, my husband, future generations, my mom, my brothers, my family, my friends. I scrap for inspiration to others and for the feeling of pride I get upon finishing a great page. I scrap because it’s fun and I enjoy it. I scrap because I want to. I scrap because I need to. I scrap because capturing our memories and preserving them is one of my responsibilities and I will not take that for granted. I scrap to learn new things, meet new people and explore the possibilities. I scrap because I want to. I scrap because I like to, NO! I scrap because I LOVE it and that is reason enough!

A few things...

So, this morning Mike rushes into the bedroom - "Come here," he said, "you're not going to beiieve it." I hopped up and followed him into the bathroom to find water dripping from the ceiling - puddling around our washer and dryer. A look up at the ceiling explained it - something was leaking and the ceiling was falling apart because of it. The reason he was so sure I wouldn't believe him was because last September the same thing had happened to the ceiling in my closet. Eventually maintenance showed up and discovered it was coming from the third floor apartment (we live on the ground) and stopped the leak...but not before cutting out the ceiling in our bathroom and leaving a huge mess. We have to live with it for a week or so, until it dries out before they replace it. Oh, the joy!

But, on to good news -

First - there is a Speed Scrap this Saturday at Stuff to Scrap

Ok, so I was just in the bathroom at work - and one of the things I hate about public restrooms are the large gaps between the stall door and the stall wall - those gaps that allow you to see other people around in the restroom...anyways, so I sat there doing my thing (TMI, I don't care - not the point!) and was looking out of this annoying gap and saw something that grossed me out.

Something I'm sure I've done - and I bet you've done too.

Two women in a row stepped out of their stalls, walked over to the sink/mirrior and started fixing their hair and adjusting their glasses. Then washed their hands.

Um. Gross.

Isn't the point of washing our hands to prevent those icky potty germs from getting into us? Rubbing your face or running your fingers through your hair seems like a great way to make those dirty germies a part of you.

I stepped out of the stall and washed my hands, before fixing my hair.

EDIT: I use a MAC - which seems to be causing the issues for PC users. I guess if you drag the files into a new folder, they should work fine. If a PC user wants to write up a tutorial for how to do this, I will offer a GC to my store to that person. If I get multiple tutorials, I will choose the best written one and that person will win. I don't have a PC to use to write a good step-by-step for you guys, so I am counting on you! Thanks for your help. (Note: The tutorial will also be posted in the Stuff to Scrap Forum)

To get the files out of a zipped folder that gives the error (folder already exists) in windows explorer
* Click on the zipped file in the left hand nested list of files in the file content window the right side of the windows explorer area you will see the folders in the zipped file

* Click on the folder to open it in the right side click the first file hold down the shift and click the last file in the list drag or copy paste into a folder in your left side folder nested list.

Make sure to check all folders if you do not have a MAC do not copy over the Mac OSX files.

I got a comment today telling me that my files cannot be extracted once downloaded, has anyone else had this problem? The files in question are: Hello Easter Word Art, Relay for Life QP, Fairy Tale Wedding Word Art. Please comment here if you have had any problems. I'm assuming it's a fluke, since I have had hundreds of downloads of these files with only the one issue...but maybe I'm wrong thanks for your help!

Relay for Life Charity Kit & Freebie

Ellay has created a great Charity kit for the Relay for Life and I took the opportunity to scrap a LO of my dad and brothers at the Relay right before my dad died.

Relay For Life is the American Cancer Society’s signature activity. It offers everyone in a community an opportunity to participate in the fight against cancer. Teams of people camp out at a local high school, park, or fairground and take turns walking or running around a track or path. Each team is asked to have a representative on the track at all times during the event. Relays are an overnight event, up to 24 hours in length.
Relay For Life is a life-changing event that brings together more than 3.5 million people to:
• Celebrate the lives of those who have battled cancer. The strength of survivors inspires others to continue to fight.
• Remember loved ones lost to the disease. At Relay, people who have walked along side people battling cancer can grieve and find healing.
• Fight Back. We Relay because we have been touched by cancer and desperately want to put an end to it.

Alright, sit back, grab some coffee and meet my amazing new template team! These girls are going to be showing off some amazing layouts using my templates!

First, I thought I would take a moment and tell you all a little more about me.

I'm Manda, I am 25 years old and I hail from Minnesota (just a few miles from the Mall of America). I have a wonderful husband, we said our vows last August and have been together for nearly 5 years now. We have a 3 1/2 year old son, Adam and a cat named Brie. I am a working mom, spending my days planning fundraisers for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. I got into digital scrapbooking last fall and couldn't believe how generous this community was. As I got more and more involved I realized that there are kind, sweet and understanding people behind this generosity and I wanted to be a part of it! So here I am.

I love to play with my kids, digital scrapbook, learn new photography techniques, camping, and taking care of my 6 chickens. I used to work in large corporate banking, but left my job last year in April to stay home with my two year old son- best decision I've made. We moved to Utah late May of last year for my husband's job and I've been very unhappy as I don't know anyone over here. I think I was getting depressed... it all changed when I discovered the wonderful world of digital scrapbooking! I've made a few digi-friends and feel a lot better now that I have a creative outlet. Luckily, we will be moving back to Wisconsin (my home town) next week as my husband is transferring departments, can't wait!

Kim's Blog
I started digital scrapbooking last fall and fell in love with it immediately. I'm still pretty new at all of it, but I enjoy learning new techniques and often get inspired by templates. On a more personal note, I am a stay-at-home mom of two boys. My husband has been in the military for the past 11 ½ years. Every duty station has been quite an adventure and also, as I'm learning, so many experiences lead to great scrapping layouts!

I also love to run and am currently training for a marathon. I hate Seattle and can't wait to move back to the wonderful state of Idaho! It's time for the first ever DDBN Forum Blog Train! This one is called Fairy Tale Wedding and it's extra special to me because it's themed after my wedding colors! It started as a suggestion for a kit and stemmed into a huge collab that evolved into a very unique blog train! There are a number of designers involved in this kit, some have been designing for awhile and others are new. This is going to be a HUGE kit when all is said and done.

One of the coolest things about this blog train is that it is happening MONTHLY and is open to ALL. Whether your a seasoned designer or just looking to dip your toes in, give it a try. You can read all about our next blog train here.

My Name - Dillemas

I've been hearing lots of comments lately about my name - or the changing of my name. I agree with everyone - I loved the name NibblesSkribbles! However, about a month ago I started getting nasty emails from someone who claimed I stole their name. It wasn't anyone in the digital scrapbooking world! This person threatened legal action and at the time I had no idea what kind of trouble I could get into if indeed I did steal her name.

Because of this issue, when I was offered a spot at OSS I decided to go with Designs by MandaK - lame and boring, I know, but safe. It all culminated today when I found out that I could have kept the name Nibbles Skribbles with no problems - there's more to the story....but I don't want to get into it.

I feel like it would be totally silly and weird to switch back to NibblesSkribbles, but then again I just started my store and Designs by MandaK is only about 2 weeks old...so I'm putting it to a vote -

Leave a comment and let me know what you think - Stick with Designs by MandaK or switch it all back to NibblesSkribbles?

Last week I got an email from Amber over at Stolen Moment's Designs that was pretty exciting. Amber is one of my favorite designers (one of many!) and her email asked if I was available to CT for her for a kit she had created in celebration of her birthday. I was honored and excited - not only to get to work with one of Amber's kits but because this kit is gorgeous!

It's called "My Life" and it is simply beautiful! Check it out:

We also got Adam's school pictures back last week, so I used this kit to scrap one of my favorites. This page will be available as a Quick Page later this week too!

Freebie Template #9

Whew, it's been a crazy few days in my world. On Saturday, I plopped down to work on a few LO's only to find my folder with all of my kits was gone. G. O. N. E. After frantically running a few searches, I realized it was in fact gone and called my husband in. Unfortunately, even though he was able to find all of the files - they have been renamed and thus useless since I can't match anything up to a designer or kit.

So, this weekend I started my digi-scrap collection over. Luckily, all of the stores I had purchased stuff from were able to reset my links and Casey, the owner of Pretty Scrappy, was very generous in giving me a couple of her kits to help fill my hard-drive. Additionally, a number of my digi-friend designers have graciously offered me some of the kits I lost - which is so sweet!

Anyways, on to what you're here for! I am once again hosting the template challenge at Nicole's forum and the new template is up and ready for download!

Template Team Call

First a little housekeeping:

I feel a little crazy for doing this so early on in my "career", but I made up a new type of team - and am hoping to get a few applicants for my Template Team. Basically, I would like to have a group of team members who will create LO's using my templates and do some advertising for me on a rotating basis.

*Graphics used are by Steph at Scrappy Cocoa and her kit Camp Idaho - I hadn't looked at this kit much before, so many fun things! I mean, seriously, how cute is Mr. Moose?
A Few more Details: *All team members must be able to work with a layered PSD or TIFF file or a flattened PNG I do not have individual png files in my downloads. *I will be requesting full credits for any LO you do using one of my templates. Since I am not a designer, you will be using other's work and I will be posting credits here along with the LO. *I just realized I forgot a date on my flyer - please have your applications to me by March 20!

Organizing Yourself - a Freebie

I have found, as I get more involved in the digi-scrap world, that it can be hard to keep track of what kits I need to work with, what challenges I want to do, what galleries I'm supposed to upload stuff to for certain designers...and beyond the "requirements" for the various CT's I'm on - remembering what kits I DL that I want to play with! So, I created a document to help me keep track!

I actually created two spreadsheets - a Layout Planning (for lack of a better name) and a Challenge Tracker - I will attempt to explain my logic behind the columns here.

The Layout Planner one has the following columns: Date Due, Designer, Kit Name, LO (to check when a LO is done) G1, G2, G3 (typically for CT's there are 2-3 galleries that need to be posted to I can note which ones and when they are done here), Blog (if I am posting about it on my blog I can check off here when I am done) and QP (some designers like you to do a QP or sometimes I just decide to do one - this column helps me remember that fact!)

I also created a challenge tracker - there are so many great challenges out there and I don't want to forget one that I want to do. The columns here are: Date Due, Forum, Challenge, LO (to check when the LO is done), Posted? (sometimes I finish a LO for a challenge with a kit that hasn't been released, so I may have to wait to post it) and Kit Used (for credits/reminder what LO I did for the challenge!).

Personally, I print the spreadsheet and write in as things come up - then it's always right in front of me without having to have another program open, but it could be customized further and used digitally and I figured, since I put in the work of creating these I might as well share. In the zip file you will find both spreadsheets in excel and PDF formats. If you don't have excel, you can use google documents to read the file and make any changes you might want.
Hopefully some of you find this useful! Please let me know if you download this - I would love to hear if it works for you and/or any additions or changes you made that you found helpful - they might help me too!

Alright, I'm still not announcing the big news, but I'm sure after this post some of you will be able to guess!

I have decided to change my "brand" from NibblesSkribbles to Designs by MandaK - I think it seems more straightforward to have it linked to my user name and I figure I am still new enough that it will be an easy transition.

So, as you can see I did a slight re-design on my blog - eventually I'll figure out how to make my own background, but for now this will do and I created a new blinkie.

Cottage Chic

A scrapping friend of mine, Kathy, has decided to give desiging a try and she has done a BEAUTIFUL job with her first kit, Cottage Chic. I was lucky enough to get to design a page for her to help her show off her first design-baby and you have to get your hands on this GORGEOUS thing!

She has something like 25 papers and 30 embellishments in blues, creams and browns and I loved working with it! Here is my layout using her kit and if you hop over to her blog you will be able to pick it up for yourself! Be sure to leave her lots of love, she deserves it!

Oh man, what a day - and not in a good way. I had a doctors appointment this morning because I *thought* I had another sinus infection. I ended up with a CT scan (no, not creative team!) and got a phone call this afternoon recommending I see a specialist ASAP. Not really sure what this means for me, or what's wrong...but happy thoughts from all of you would be appreciated!

...good thing there's a speed scrap tonight at Scrap Matters and one tomorrow at DDBN....I could use the pick me up!

Freebie Template #8: Challenge at Digi-Designs Forum

It's the beginning of the month, which means new challenges are going to be popping up everywhere, including here! Those of you who are new around here - every two weeks I host the template challenge at DIgi-Designs by Nicole's forum and post the link to my new template there. The opposite weeks, a freebie is available directly on my blog

This week's template was created with the idea it would pose an "additional" challenge to you. I would love for you to really take advantage of the journaling area on this template. Use it to tell a longer story with your words. If they are too personal to post online, that's fine - just do it for yourself. If it's not, please share it either with your credits in the gallery or here! When I paper scrapped I really journaled a lot, I was a big fan of hidden journaling, something that's not as possible in digital...anyways, here's what you're hear for!

This challenge will run from March 1 - March 14! Every LO posted will be entered into the March LO of the month drawing for a chance to win one of Nicole's great kits for free!

I have some really fun news to share with everyone! As you know I have been participating in the Pretty Scrappy Quick Page team challenge this month. I made it to the third week of competition before I was cut. I had a blast playing along, and was proud to have made it as far as I did. I figured that was the end of my journey....however I got a message this morning from Angel over at Pretty Scrappy offering me a position on the Pretty Scrappy Creative Team!!!!

I never, ever expected to become a part of a team working for such a diverse group of designers! I want to thank everyone who supported my entries to the challenge by voting, viewing and downloading - your support helped get me this position!

Photo Tagging Game

As long as this game has been going around, I'm surprised that i haven't had a chance to play it yet! But today one of my followers Cris tagged me - so here goes.

Here's how it works:
•Go to your photo folder in your computer
•Go to the 6th folder of photos
•Go to the sixth picture
•Put the picture on your blog and a description of it
•Invite six friends to join the challenge
•Link them in your blog and let them know they have been challenged!

Well, I have to explain that I have 3 picture folders - so I just chose the only one with more then 6 folders inside it! Which is my Adam folder. The 6th folder is January 2006, 1/7/06 - this photo. It's Adam enjoying his swing at 4 months old. I love it!

I'm not specifically tagging anyone, I think most people have played already!

Did everyone have a great Valentines day? I know I did - I have lots of pictures to prove it! Mike and I went to a late lunch at Olive Garden, bought a Magnum of wine and then went bowling. We ended our night on the couch watching Super Bad. (Hilarious!)
